猛毒の蛇やサソリを食い殺す孔雀は
マハーマユーリー(摩訶摩瑜利)という
ヒンドゥーの女神になっていて、
そして仏教にも、人の災厄や苦痛を取り除く功徳のある
孔雀明王として迎えられています。
また恵みの雨をもたらす吉鳥として
インドではとても大切にされている国鳥です。

毒蛇をたおす孔雀は
つまり人間の心の中にある
「三毒」- 欠乏感、怒り、無知というものを
浄化してくれるシンボル。

孔雀の美しさを感じて描きながら
そんなことに思いを馳せていました。

僕は昔から孔雀が好きで
彼らからは、なにか
この世のものじゃないような
心洗われるものを感じます。

この作品はどうしても
最後まで悩んだ挙句
3つのバージョンを作りました。

The peacock, which kills poisonous snakes and scorpions, is a Hindu goddess named Mahāmāyūrī ,and is also welcomed in Buddhism as the Peacock King (Mahāmāyūrī‐vidyā‐rājñī), who has the merit of removing human misfortune and suffering.
The peacock is also a national bird of India, and is treasured in India as a bird of good luck that brings blessed rain.

The peacock slaying the poisonous snakes is a symbol of purification of the "three poisons"-deficiency, anger, and ignorance in Buddhism.

I was thinking about this while feeling and drawing the beauty of the peacock.
⁡
I have always loved peacocks, and feel something out of this world and sacred about them.
⁡
I was torn between three different versions of this piece, and I just couldn't leave it out.
